The Beauty of Mary Immaculate is offered again this year to faith and piety of our good people. As a pastor I feel all the excitement and the smell of "Spring" during my first steps in this wonderful land Scilla and with deep gratitude to the Lord, I call a number. I am sure that seeing Mary, the Mother of Tenderness, especially in this Pauline Year, we also know we proclaim the Gospel with renewed heart by the whiteness

Essa fu rovinata by the earthquake of 1599 and later rebuilt even larger 240 to 85 palms. Its shape was a Latin cross surmounted by a dome, with three naves and arches resting on sixteen columns of Carrara marble, topped by Corinthian capitals and was dedicated to St. Mary Immaculate. He had many altars, marble and dominated the main, a statue of the Immaculate Conception. with angels, carved in marble, the same one that is still in front. Following to further damage, it was rebuilt from scratch in a neoclassical style in 1837 and beautifully decorated in 1854 and 1878 were carried out landscaping works. Still a cataclysm almost completely destroyed, the terrible earthquake of 1908. In 1908 it was repaired and covered with brick and covered with sheets of disfiguring beautiful church there was nothing that the side walls and the facade, however, almost devoid of side two beautiful towers. On 14 June 1958, thanks to the efforts of Archbishop Santo Bergamo, concocted by Ing. Leoni, was laid the first stone. is consecrated with great jubilation and enthusiasm of the people Scilla, Msgr Iron Archbishop of Reggio Calabria, on 11 February 1970. In This last decade, much has been done to our churches through the efforts of our beloved parish priest Don Mimmo Marturano, we saw the church of San Rocco, the great mosaic in mother-church, the restoration of the churches of Porto Salvo and St Joseph which still works and the latest interventions in the Mother Church. Much remains to be done, the facade of the Cathedral Church, the numerous interventions of restoration, therefore, hope in divine providence and the people of Scylla, who has always contributed so generously to the decorum and the splendor of its churches, we hope to see soon even the Church of the return to the ancient beauty.

" WORKS IN MARBLE, EMBLEM OF WEALTH AND PRESTIGE "

In the past, wealth and prestige of a people could be seen even by the pomp with which the churches were decorated. Key element, in this sense, was the use of marble as a material for landscaping. The importance of the marble can be seen as an element of prestige admiring all the churches have altars in painted plaster as if they were made of marble panels to show off the beauty of this precious mineral through painting techniques. The churches of Scilla almost all marble altars of different artistic styles. The church of Porto Salvo and that of Possess the St. Joseph Altar in white marble. Eighteenth-century architectural lines, and linear, but this altars own decorative elements in relief are very interesting. The Mother Church, with the work of artistic treatment, has been reassembled an altar in the chapel of the Blessed Sacrament. The latter, which is made entirely of marble antiques, striking for the beauty of the tabernacle. In it, the head of a cherub is carved above a canopy surmounted by a crown. The church of San Rocco has a son altar of neo-classical era of creation (1872) is striking for the variety for the tabernacle of marble and consists of a gable frame with white marble supported by four columns with Corinthian capitals. Finally, the altar of the church of the Holy Spirit is a jewel of Baroque art, which surrounds the beautiful painting of the Holy Spirit descending on the Virgin and the Apostles (F. Celebrano, 1799). What is most striking, however, is the wide variety of marble used. Suffice it to say that only to make the altar of the church of the Holy Spirit they have been used over ten different varieties! The marble must for all of our church is the white Carrara marble. The use of these marbles quality is due to the trade which was based on the economy Scilla. The Canon Giovanni Minasi writes for example that the boats were returning from trips Scilla commercial full of precious marble and valuable paintings. Another element of prestige for the churches was the presence of marble sculptures. We will own both of entire fragments. Than whole are:

1) the statue of the Immaculate Virgin, 2) the angel that is placed next to the same, 3) the bust of San Peter the Apostle, 4) the statue of San Rocco, 5) a small bust of dimensions depicting St. Anthony of Padua, 6) a Virgin and Child seated of small. The list of works in marble (statues and altars) could be much longer if there had been earthquakes and - especially - if it had not destroyed the Mother Church to rebuild it from scratch. By Don Mimmo had started a recovery. It 'been him who want to restore the statue of placing it inside the church thus saving it from "death" safe. E ', however, must resume as soon as this bad habit, again to avoid making serious mistakes such as having prevented from ever being able to admire the Mother Church as it was when it was considered the most beautiful of the entire Archdiocese, including the Cathedral itself!

November 4: Unity Day 'NATIONAL ARMED FORCES

This November 4 is a bit 'more special than others. Use of it on the ninetieth anniversary of the victory of the coalition which was part of Italy on the one rooted in the Austrian and German empires, the end of WWI. Victory marked by the sacrifice of almost seven hundred thousand young soldiers died to defend our homeland. And 'now celebrated mostly as National Unity Day, as it was in fact with World War I that the revival of national was actually carried out, and as Armed Forces Day, to remember the enormous sacrifices borne in every time and place for the good of the whole nation and to pay homage to their current function that is time, especially to peacekeeping and support to people in places politically and militarily unstable and the economic and infrastructural reconstruction of the same locations.
celebrate the festival on Nov. 4 means to recognize the dedication of women and men who - following the example of their predecessors - worn with discipline, honor and courage, the uniforms of the Carabinieri Corps, Army, Navy and Air Force. Duty is to express gratitude to those who paid with their lives to obtain, first, unity and independence of the nation and, then, that freedom and the democracy that we are fortunate today to be considered as acquired.

Like all municipalities in Italy, Scilla also honored with a solemn ceremony, the 4th of November. The ceremony, preceded by a sad and solemn procession, culminating in the sight of the beautiful marble monument, restored in recent years and full of artifacts that represent the number of soldiers during the battles. At the foot, two tombstones recall the name, body, grade and year of death of the brave fallen Scilla during conflicts.

This year the event has unfolded in Scilla-City Sunday, November 2, in particular to give more people the opportunity to be present. The parade has run articulated by the Holy Mother Mary Immaculate Church immediately after the celebration of Holy Mass, in the presence of the authorities of Catholic Church and the civilian and military, in various capacities, operating across Scilla, and is was accompanied by prayers and religious songs and the notes of the Band of Scilla.
Como è anche un amico ed un collaboratore saltuario ma precious Scillachiese that tightens around him in a loving embrace in this time of temporary indisposition.
The new pastor of the 'Immacolata "Don Francesco Cuzzocrea adds his thoughts to the Mayor, making prayer and giving his blessing to the laurel wreath at the monument and those present in remembrance of the fallen, while the first trumpeter of the band tunes up famous and poignant "Silence."
The "Song of the Italians" or "Inno di Mameli", always to run the orchestra Scilla, is the right conclusion of patriotism and an intense morning of reflection and prayer for Peace.

My Toenails Are Deformed

November 2 All Souls

November 2 is the day the Church remembers the dead of all time. In Baptism we have died and resurrected in Christ, and this gives us the certainty that one day we can cover his face. For many it is hard to believe the life of the sky today we are bound to matter too much, so we always manage to capture the spiritual essence of life, death is seen as an end of an individual, or we are in a continuous research, we delude ourselves to find a wound contact with those who are no longer going to be magicians fortune tellers etc.. As for the Christian's death as painful for those who remain, he knows he is a passage from the material life to a spiritual life. The church teaches us that Christ lives in those who preceded us and we meet him in every Mass, where the sky and the Earth are found in Christ died and rose for us.

Saints

I believe in the Catholic church, proclaim the essence of faith and belief that sums up (so to speak), the entire work of God from the Creation to the end of time it is also called "profession of faith."
We believe in the Triune God, the Incarnate Son died and rose for us, the Holy Spirit, the Holy Church Cattolica, LA COMUNIONE DEI SANTI, la Remissione dei peccati e la Vita Eterna.
Saints do not shine with its own light, they are not idols to which we must make contributions and sacrifices, but they are special friends, their life is like a road that meets in the Light of God, today they live in the Light of Joy ' Love of God, invite us all to live as Christ taught us, Blessed ......, so that we can with them when we are called to live in communion with the Holy Trinity.
